HOW TO CHOOSE THE PERFECT WEDDING DATE

You've got to start somewhere... and that somewhere is your wedding date! There's so many factors to think through with this decision, but not to worry because we're sharing all our insights and questions that will lead you to finding the best date for you and your fiance AND we're giving you a guide to all the pros and cons of getting married during each season so you'll no longer dread the question "When's the wedding?" ever again! Let's jump into some different things to consider before choosing your date...

WHAT DOES YOUR LIFE LOOK LIKE

RIGHT NOW?

Do you have any scheduled time off work that would be good to have your wedding during? Are there any busy seasons in your work that you'd want to avoid having your wedding during? Are there any school or work projects you need to schedule your wedding date around? Do you think you'll need a lot of time to plan your wedding or will you have

help that can get it planned in a short time?

ARE THERE ANY SPECIFIC DATES/TIMES OF THE YEAR THAT ARE PARTICULARLY MEANINGFUL TO YOU BOTH?

Is there a special person or special people in your life who you want to honor by getting married on their birthday or anniversary? Consider choosing your dating anniversary or proposal anniversary for the wedding date. Do you have a great memory together that is associated with a specific day or season that you want to signify by getting married on that day.

ARE THERE ANY DATE PREFERENCES FROM YOUR VIP LIST?

Okay, let's face it... it's impossible to choose a date ahead of time that accommodates every persons' schedule, so by your "VIP list" we really do mean your ABSOLUTE very important people list. Maybe that's your parents, siblings, best friends, etc. If there is anyone who you definitely can not get married without, consider asking them for any dates that they will not be available for.

WHEN IS THE MOST AFFORDABLE TIME TO GET MARRIED?

There's so many tips and tricks to planning a wedding on a budget no matter what season you choose to get married in, but typically by industry standards the most affordable wedding season is the winter. If you want to keep costs lower, consider getting married during this time.

ADDITIONAL WAYS TO CHOOSE YOUR DATE:

  • Do you want to leave for your honeymoon right after your wedding? If so, when is your desired honeymoon season?

  • If you dream of getting married outside, consider what the ideal weather is for your outdoor wedding.

  • Maybe you want to space out important dates in your life such as avoiding booking your wedding date on holiday or birthday months.

  • If you imagine a specific floral design for your wedding, consider choosing a date that your favorite flowers are in season.

  • Based off your dream dress... have you always wanted your dress to have long sleeves, be strapless, etc?

PROS & CONS GUIDE TO WEDDINGS IN EACH SEASON

SPRING

PROS

CONS

feeling of newness/freshness, beautiful flowers, the sun gives soft lighting for photos, people are typically in town during the spring

possible rain, can still be cold outside, late spring is the beginning of busy wedding season which means higher prices and dates filling up.

SUMMER

PROS

CONS

in general, things are a bit more laid back, likely will have sunshine, people have more free time, you can choose any color palette - especially vibrant colors

could be too hot outside for guests, bugs, harsh sunlight for photos, busy wedding season means higher prices and dates filling up, could be hard to coordinate dates with vacations and travel plans

FALL

PROS

CONS

weather is cooling off, beautiful colors, easy to choose your color palette naturally, most people are home from summer travel, could be a great time to honeymoon after the wedding to avoid the summer travelers

not all flowers are in season, people are typically busier with work/school/routines starting in the fall, early fall months are busy wedding season which means higher prices and dates filling up

WINTER

PROS

CONS

lower prices on most everything because it's off-season for weddings, there's a good chance of family gathering anyway because of the holidays, cozy wedding-feel, snow makes for beautiful photos

limited on outdoor venues because of the cold weather, snow/ice can keep some guests from being able to travel, might not be the ideal time for your honeymoon right after, it's a busy time of the year with the holidays
